Between the shadow and the soul : A Sweet Colorado Elopement

Lauren and I had been in touch over the years via social media because of our similar hearts for photography, human trafficking issues, and Uganda. She  contacted me about photographing her secret and small wedding ceremony at the beautiful Glen Eyrie Castle in Colorado Springs. I was so excited for the opportunity as I knew it would be intimate and meaningful.

It was a perfect little ceremony and so touching to see this couple wash one another’s feet and serve communion to those in attendance.

Simple and Sacred.

Thank you Lauren and JD, for allowing me to witness and document your love and your gorgeous vows. I’ll end here with a love poem by Pablo Neruda that JD read to Lauren during their ceremony;

“I do not love you as if you were salt-rose, or topaz,
or the arrow of carnations the fire shoots off.
I love you as certain dark things are to be loved,
in secret, between the shadow and the soul.

I love you as the plant that never blooms
but carries in itself the light of hidden flowers;
thanks to your love a certain solid fragrance,
risen from the earth, lives darkly in my body.

I love you without knowing how, or when, or from where.
I love you straightforwardly, without complexities or pride;
so I love you because I know no other way

than this: where I does not exist, nor you,
so close that your hand on my chest is my hand,
so close that your eyes close as I fall asleep.”
